By expressing gratitude to the presence of Allah SWT, for the abundance of His grace and guidance, the writing of the book entitled Teaching English As A Second Language: Methods And Strategies For ESL Teachers. This book discusses introduction to teaching english as second language, ESL teaching methods and approaches, rethinking language development , using technology in ESL education, cultural sensitivity and inclusivity in ESL also bridging the gap.
English as a Second Language (ESL) denotes the instruction and acquisition of English by individuals whose primary language is not English. This term is commonly used in contexts where learners reside in an English speaking country and need to acquire the language for academic, professional, or social integration. ESL differs from English as a Foreign Language (EFL), which is taught in non English-speaking countries, and from English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), which encompasses broader contexts of language acquisition(Celce-Murcia & Larsen Freeman, 1999; Hussein, 2013; Ter-Mkrtchyan, 2024).
The scope of ESL extends beyond basic communication skills to include proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It also involves understanding cultural nuances and using English effectively in diverse settings. ESL programs aim to provide learners with the linguistic skills essential for achievement in academic settings, professional environments, and daily activities(Ter-Mkrtchyan, 2024).
