Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, who has made it easy to write this book. May peace and blessings be upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It has long been the author’s ambition to provide a model for applying recently developed theories to the study of prose, poetry, and drama so that busy graduate students can analyze the books they read.

This book is a simple manifestation of the practice of interpreting gender theory and ecocriticism. Gender theory in literature refers to the analysis of how gender is constructed, represented, and perceived in texts. Gender is not a fixed identity, but rather a social construction that can change. Analyzing literary texts using a gender lens helps understand how gender norms and stereotypes are reflected and challenged in literary works.

Ecocriticism is an approach that analyzes the relationship between literature and the environment. Ecocriticism emphasizes that literature can provide insight into the relationship between humans and the environment, as well as the impact of human activities on ecosystems. This approach encourages readers to reflect on ecological issues and their impact on society.

Integrating gender and ecocritical perspectives into literature teaching modules opens up space for deeper analysis. For example, works depicting the relationship between women and nature can be explored to understand how gender interacts with environmental issues. This analysis creates a more holistic understanding of literary texts, as well as other cases related to the environment and gender. By reading this simple book, it is hoped that readers, especially teachers, lecturers, prospective teachers, and students, will understand the substance of gender and ecocriticism and be able to apply these concepts in their studies both in and outside of class.
