Environmental chemistry is a branch of chemistry that studies the reactions and transformations of chemical substances in the environment, as well as the interactions between chemical components and natural elements such as air, water, soil, and living organisms. The primary goal of environmental chemistry is to understand how chemical compounds are formed, distributed, react, and ultimately affect the balance of ecosystems. In other words, environmental chemistry serves as a bridge between pure chemistry and its application in the context of the natural environment and humans as part of that system (X. Liu et al., 2020).
